I told you about the historic city center of Zurich and posted a few snapshots of the lovely streets a few posts back and I mentioned how Zurich has so much to offer in terms of various parts of the city with completely different vibes, atmospheres, architecture, and style. This little hotspot right here, "Frau Gerolds Garten", is a temporary pop up trend-location in the western, more industrial part of the city.
Urban patterns and development always fascinate me. The individual dynamic and evolution of a city is in my opinion what makes it special and lively, stand out, and be memorable. For this reason I always love checking out temporary installments and innovative, unconventional buildings that spontaneously rise within the urban fabric. Often these types of events form and shape a city and help it thrive. This garden / restaurant / urban farming / shop / bar and terrace is no different and attracts people of all ages, styles, and ethnics. I loved it.
It is directly next to the train tracks, giving it a very urban and industrial, make-shift feeling combined with the many old containers that now function as homes for the various installments, such as a cool shop or a restaurant. The plan is that this gathering makes way for a new office building (I think an office building, not sure, you´ll have to read into it a bit more if you are interested). Until there is a gap within the urban architecture and a vacant plot, this will continue to attract many visitors. And who knows how it will develop, maybe it will become a permanent part of the city. And if not, I am sure plenty of other unique things will appear somewhere else instead. As long as this modular urban garden is available, go ahead and visit!
