places to visit while in > Zurich > Rote Fabrik
there are more polished, sophisticated, expensive (yes, everything is a tiny bit expensive in Zurich), chic and stylishly designed, higher-end venues and restaurants in this city than one could probably count. They are all very well no doubt and recommended to visit when in Zurich, but this one I am talking about here is just not one of them. Partly a reason, however, why I like it so much.
My best friend who has been living in Zurich for over a year now took me on a not so crowded weekday. The "Rote Fabrik" at Lake Zurich´s western shore is just what it says: a "red industrial building". The area around it and the building complex itself has been transformed into a very raw and basic venue for drinks and food surrounded by green, the lake, red bricks, good architecture, nice plazas and ateliers. The unrefined vibe, simple sitting benches and tables, old carriages converted into yet again simple but somehow strikingly appealing sitting elements directly at the lake´s edge, the uber-colorful graffiti on some walls, as well as the very heterogenous group of people mingling around the site make this a really cool place to enjoy some free time with friends and family.
During summer especially, a lot of outdoor activities and events take place here, from live music and dancing to outdoor cinema. This is definitely a place I would frequently visit if I was living in Zurich. Which I actually might next year...nothing sure yet.
be sure to check it out, here is a link to their website with a schedule for all of the events taking place > http://www.rotefabrik.ch/en/home/
would love to hear your thoughts on this or what you experienced if you have been to Rote Fabrik as well! Let me know!
